SILOM COMPLEX

This six-storey shopping complex is located in the heart of the Central Business District on Silom Road, and is linked to the skytrain's Sala Daeng Station by a sky bridge. THANIYA PLAZA

Thaniya Plaza is located on Thaniya Road, which runs from Silom Road, between Soi 2 and • 4, to Suriwongse Road. This compact mini-mall, favoured by Japanese travellers, is known for its wide selection of golf shops, as well as its stores selling antiques, laquerware, baskets and other handicraft items. Thaniya Plaza also features a bookstore and several restaurants.

MBK (MAH BOON KRONG)

MBK is the best place to go for those who love shopping in a market-style atmosphere, but would prefer to do so in air-conditioned comfort. It is packed with stalls selling everything from clothes, leather goods and fashion accessories to cosmetics, mobile phones, CDs, DVDs, PlayStation games and all kinds of gift items. Built in 1986, this seven-story, 300-metre long complex is located across from Siam Square and boasts seven movie theatres, a 40-lane bowling alley, a choice of restaurants and a food court.

PENINSULA PLAZA

Located about 500 metres past the Erawan and Four Seasons hotels on Rajadamri Road, the Peninsula Plaza is the city's equivalent of Harrod's, but on a somewhat smaller scale. This high-class mall is home to 70 small boutiques such as Cartier, Davidoff , Versace and Gucci, along with some of the best tailors in Bangkok. The complex also houses jewellery stores, top local fashion designers, Oa few gourmet shops and a pleasant cafe that caters mostly to the area's business lunch crowd.

RIVER CITY SHOPPING COMPLEX

Located on the Chao Phraya River next to the Royal Orchid Sheraton on Si Phraya Road, the four-storey River City Shopping Complex is home to a number of prestigious art and antique galleries. Though he building may appear modern, The third and fourth floors house one of Bangkok's best collections of relics, objets d'art and tasteful productions from all over Asia. The items are brilliantly displayed to highlight their details. Though the complex mostly serves a specialty market, it is certainly worth a look. PATPONG NIGHT MARKET (PATPONG ROAD)

Apart from the colourful night life, where an amazing variety of bars, clubs, discotheques and other exotic venues exist, there is a pulsating night market to attract all-night revellers. This is where you can buy clothing and souvenirs of all kinds. Patpong's lively night market spills over on to Silom Road in one of the city's main commercial districts.

   

SOI " LALAI SAP "

This is one of Bangkok's most popular lunchtime shopping areas, located next to the Bangkok Bank headquarters on Silom Road. Starting just before noon, and closing not long after lunch breaks on weekdays only, the market is packed with office workers who shop for clothing, leather goods, food, gifts and knickknacks.
